Where Are My Observations? (WAMO) Viewer overview

User guide

WAMO Viewer is designed to make submitting data to the Minor Planet Center's (MPC) 'Where Are My Observations?' (WAMO) web service more flexible and to make the results from WAMO easier to analyse.

The MPC's 'Where Are My Observations?' web service allows the observer to find out what has happened to astrometry submitted to the Minor Planet Center and if appropriate, provides a reference to the publication it has appeared in.

Text entered into the Input area of the WAMO Viewer is sent to the MPC's 'Where Are My Observations?' (WAMO) web service. The response from the web service is reformatted and displayed in the Output area where it can be copied and pasted into e.g. a spreadsheet for further analysis.

The MPC WAMO web page requires input in one of three formats:

  • Observation IDs as received in an acknowledgement message from the MPC (e.g. MK73oI010000DZYs010000123), one per line, with no other text.
  • Astrometry in MPC1992 80-column format, exactly as originally submitted.
  • If you submitted astrometry in ADES format, specifying the "trkSub" you used for your submission, and your "stn" code, separated by a space with nothing else on the line.

The WAMO Viewer takes input in the three formats specified by the MPC above, as well as:

  • ADES format astrometry which can be pasted or drag and dropped onto the input area of the Viewer. Before submitting to the WAMO web service the ADES astrometry is automatically converted to the 80-column format required by the service.
  • MPC acknowledgement messages which can be pasted or drag and dropped onto the input area of the viewer. Acknowledgement messages contain Observation IDs and these are automatically located and used to submit to the WAMO web service.
  • Observation IDs can be entered with multiple Observation IDs on a single line. These will be automatically split onto separate lines before submitting to the WAMO web service.

The reformatted response from the WAMO web service is placed in the output area with column headings and each field separated from others using a configurable output separator, ready for pasting into a spreadsheet.
