Found visually by Robert Evans on 2003 June 12.82, about 1 month after
this type II supernova originally exploded (but at that time M74 was in
conjunction with the Sun).
It has faded from the discovery magnitude of about +13.2V to red mag
+16.3 when this image was taken 2 months later. Check here
