(90482) Orcus = 2004 DW (very large Kuiper belt object)

One of the largest Kuiper belt objects so far discovered and picked up by the same team (Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo and David Rabinowitz) that found 2003 VB12 (unofficially named Sedna), (50000) Quaoar and 2002 AW197. Have a look at Mike Brown's 2004 DW page.

This image was taken in rather poor conditions with an almost full moon close by. To disclose the object from the background stars two long sets of images were taken, with a gap of two hours between each. After all the images were stacked together compensating for 2004 DW's motion each star appears as two dots, but the minor planet appears as a single dot.
